I never would have thought a raven's feathers would have this rusty cast about them, but with the light shining directly through the primaries, this is what the camera saw.

For photographic purposes, I would have had the bird up just off the point of the rocky ledge, but he would not cooperate. He's hard to make out against the fall foliage.

Too often, these shadowy birds look as if they were superimposed on the background, like mere silhouttes of featureless black against the color of fall.
