fred1st > I doubt you'll find an author's page with a sillier image. But I AM wearing new Carhartts and rubber Muckboots and the chicken is on his best behavior.

fred1st > The Strange Farmer of Erewhon (which is roughly NOWHERE spelled backwards) stands amazed in his garden. See page 30 for the allegory of an isolated soul seeking connection with the larger world.

fred1st > It's not easy to depict a sense of scale when landscapes are reduced to tiny pictures. Even so, I hope the ones I've included in the book will add to your experience of being near the places where these writings took place. This is a rail fence along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Tuggles Gap where Route 8 out of Floyd intersects the Parkway.

fred1st > Morning sun streams through dense woods along Goose Creek. This is the setting for "Driveway Moment" on page 143

fred1st > Sunflowers from the garden--before the deer discovered they were very delicious.

fred1st > Swallowtails--that cast such enticing shadows for the dog to chase. See page 118 -- Things That Go Beep in the Night

fred1st > Goose Creek in winter just below the confluence with Nameless Creek. The rocky bluff here is one of my favorite places near the house; we can see it from the front porch before the trees leaf out.

fred1st > Foxtail, a grass, covered with jewel drops of dew and made more striking by the early morning shadows of the east ridge.
