I could have stayed here for an hour as the light changed every second! What you can't tell is that the wind is blowing so hard I'm having a hard time standing, much less holding the camera steady as I pan to capture the three images that make up this striking composite. fred1st > Technically, these are not mountains, but "erosional remnants"--what is left of thousands of feet of volcanic ash, dust and soil where once a shallow sea covered this part of the American West and then wooly mammoths roamed.

fred1st > With the rains that fell for 4 of our 5 days in Dakota, the little stream is flowing below, and the nearby vegetation lends a dash of color other than red-brown-gray-tan to the landscape. And those interesting clouds certainly lent a nice touch to the few photos of the day.

fred1st > Some of my daughter's neighbors had taken great pains to "plant" this wonderful but completely DEAD tree in a rock garden near their house. Nice touch!
