Fred First is a writer, teacher, photographer and former physical therapist enjoying semi-retirement in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. With the rains that fell for 4 of our 5 days in Dakota, the little stream is flowing below, and the nearby vegetation lends a dash of color other than red-brown-gray-tan to the landscape. And those interesting clouds certainly lent a nice touch to the few photos of the day.

Along a Floyd County road that I swear, only sees two vehicles pass about every two weeks, and they showed up just for me, to add interest to the background. The wind was blowing crazy the day I took this image, and a storm loomed--giving a nice, flat lighting in the middle of the afternoon. / Fred First / Floyd County, VA
